2025: HAPPY (Belated) NEW YEAR!
Well, we made it (sorta?). 2024 was no joke, and I have a feeling 2025 is going to be challenging for a myriad of reasons. I am a fatally optimistic person, so I have some ideas on how to get through what I feel will be a tricky year—a year where even more buttons will be pushed and we will be challenged in ways that we didn’t anticipate. I still think that after all of this, we will come out better people in the end.
1. We should remember our own hearts. No matter our differences, we must remember what deeply matters to us. Love matters. Caring for others matters.
2. Creating/maintaining close-knit communities. I encourage you to do something kind for others REGARDLESS of what you think you may know of them. Someone doesn’t need to be kind to me for me to understand that the right thing is to be kind to them no matter what.
3. Remember that EVERYTHING is temporary. We may feel stuck sometimes, but we must keep moving forward. We should remember our core values and live them—especially when it feels hard to—that is when we need to dig the deepest to remember.
4. Goodness always wins. Be persistent in your goodness. It may take three times as long, but it always prevails.
5. Stay present and active in your community and get to know people, no matter where they are from. We are sharing this rock in space, so we might as well get to know one another.
6. Keep fighting for those who cannot or feel too afraid to fight for themselves. USE your privilege (if you have any) to help others, always. Don’t bail on them. They need you.
In the coffee world, 2025 has started off with a bang, with green coffee prices being the highest they have been for 50 years. I share this because this means you will see prices increase for ALL things coffee. The market prices have been way too low for way too long, and with this course correct, farmers will finally do a bit better! But it means that consumers will also feel it in their pocketbooks/wallets. I have not raised prices in 3 years to give customers a break, especially after Covid and inflation, but you may see a bit of an increase with the new coffees coming on the menu in the next few weeks. We try very hard to remain affordable, especially regarding the quality of the coffee and the relationships. We will continue to offer delicious coffees and always prioritize accessibility.
2025 can either be terrible or great. We must remember what our hearts can offer and never let anything dim our light. Keep shining!
